Representatives of Gresford Cricket Club and Gresford Trust recently met with Ms Sue Wells, the new Regional Development Officer for Cricket in North and Mid Wales.
Her visit was to look at the facilities available at Gresford both on the field and in the building....we think she was impressed.....and also to finalise arrangements for the coming season.
A new initiative to be introduced this year, sponsored by the ECB (England and Wales Cricket Board) and to be trailed by GCC is Allstars Cricket. This is a programme specifically designed for 5 to 8 year olds, as a way to introducing boys and girls to cricket. Anybody interested is asked to register via the ECB website, follow links to Allstars Cricket and then Gresford CC. Sessions will take place at the Memorial Hall/cricket ground. Primary schools will also be involved in the launch of this programme.....goody bag available for those who sign up!
With the Womens World Cup being held in England this year, we see this as an opportunity to publicise the fact that girls of all ages are welcome at Gresford. We currently have a number who play in our youth set up, some of whom have gone on to represent both NE Wales and Cheshire. Over recent years a Ladies Charity game has taken place at the end of the season. This year we are looking to expand our cricket for the ladies. Practise sessions will be arranged for all age groups as well as some school based girl only sessions. Ladies from 5 to 95 can play cricket! Good fun and keep fit ....why not give it a go.
The 2107 season starts in late April, with Gresford running two senior sides in the North Wales League plus a friendly Sunday team and a mid week league team. Juniors are catered for from U9 to U19.
Currently we have indoor practise sessions at Ruabon and Darland and will be moving to outside net sessions as soon as the weather allows. New members at all levels are always made welcome.....girls, boys, women, men. We would also welcome social members and new supporters and sponsors to the club.
Our website (gresfordcricket.clubbuzz.co.uk) provides a lot more information about all aspects of our cricket club.
